Yea, it my strike you as strange, but I just got Comcast DVR service this weekend. Even though it was a small upgrade to the service we already had, my wife has been against it since I first suggested it. She didn't think it was worth it and thought that we watched too much TV as it is. Well, she's probably right, but fortunately my daughter really fell in love with Meerkat Manor and it gave me the excuse to get it.
And so we've had an extremely frustrating few days trying to figure it all out. We've had this remote for months, so we thought it might be easy to get adjusted to the new features. But seriously, take a look at this thing -- it's huge and it's totally messed up. It is so unintuitive, it’s unbelievable! First of all, there are way too many buttons. Some don’t seem to do anything, some seem to do different things depending on the day. It’s seriously confusing!
And, it’s not easy to figure out when you’re watching a show that’s being recorded or not being recorded. Actually, the setting up to record a show from the program guide is very easy. But I’ve had lots of trouble getting the real-time record function to work so I can pause a show or rewind a show is mind-numbing. I’m sure there is something simple to it, but I haven’t found it yet. And, I think I’m better then most people at this!
Seriously, if you’re designing this kind of thing, before you make it an actual product, give it to a couple of your friends and family members who are not in the same business and see how they do with it!
