Listening to James Cameron and he just started talking about the social nature of going to the movie theater, something we talk about all the time. Today people want to talk about movies even before they come out. The digital revolution happening in-cinema is able to drive the introduction of 3D movies. They're also developing 3D games for Avatar, which can be played on the game consoles. We're thinking spatially, but we're not displaying spatially.
He's really serious about 3D and what it means for the entertainment industry. He also believes that we'll see a lot more alternative content in movie theaters, like sporting events in 3D, etc.
In every neighborhood around the country, theaters will become a digital community center. Fuel costs are going up and people will look for different ways to experience new content on the big screen. They're not going to simply view the movies, they're going to participate in the movies. Movies still have a great opporunity to hypnotize the audience in a unique way. Cinema is maybe one of the last places where you sacrifice interactivity for a larger experience.
Wow, he's using 128 cameras to do his performance capture for Avatar. Amazing! He built an entire virtual camera system for pre-setting the scenes. Can't wait to see this movie.
